John had known Sarah for 4 years now. They met in their senior year in High School, and have always been friends. Sarah had just started a new job at an Accounting firm in the city, and had become more distant as of late. Her bright personality and charming wit no doubt assisted her in gaining the job, despite being so young compared with other qualified applicants. Within the last few months John had started to believe he started having stronger feelings towards Sarah, but had never been able to put these feelings into words. Besides, Sarah would probably never think that John would be the type of person she would want to go out with, never mind being seen in public with.
John was not the most well kept person. He did not shave regularly, clothes were often wrinkled, and keeping up to date in the latest fashion trends was not his forte. Despite this, Sarah looked to John as someone she could confide in, get advice on various life topics, and generally enjoy spending time with.
Early Monday morning, John received a call at home.
"Hello?" greeted John.
"Hi John? This is Sarah. Where are you?" John didn't know what this was about. There was slight panic in Sarah's voice that made John start to feel anxious.
"What do you mean"? asked John.
"Don't you remember? You were supposed to meet me at my work today, and help me setup my desk ergonomically."
"Oh crap! I totally forgot!" exclaimed John, realizing that again he had failed to remember something important to show Sarah how he cares for her. He remembered Sarah telling him over the weekend that her work did not have anyone that knew that type of thing, and Sarah's work had approved John coming in to help.
"I'll be right over!" said John.
"Ok," Sarah state, sounding disappointed.
John through on some jeans and t-shirt that we lying around his room, and headed out the door. It seemed quite cold outside, and for a second there, it felt as if John was getting static electricity on the palms of his hands.
"This event must have really got to me," he thought to himself. "I have never felt that before.."
He started the car, and as soon as the car's engine whirred, an absolute giant bolt of visible current bolted through John's body. You could see the blur of white, red, and white travel from the engine, through the wheel and within John's body. At first, John thought he was going to die, but then afterward, became accustom to the jolts of electricity pulsing through his body. The feeling he got from this energy was nothing he had ever felt before. He felt confident, powerful.
John opened the door and exited the vehicle. He looked back at his car, and smoke was flowing out of the engine, and black char surrounded the windshield. The car was no longer drivable. He knew he still had to get to Sarah's work to help her with his desk. Tears started to fill John's eyes as he realized he probably was not going to be able to help Sarah after all.
He looked to the clouds, almost looking for help from God. As he started up, above the Earth for about half a minute, he could start to make out the shapes of the clouds, as if they were directly in front of him. John started feeling the moisture of the clouds, as if he were positioned in the middle of them.
John looked back down, and did not see his old running shoes that he has been wearing since senior year. He saw the Earth, but from a different perspective. He was now positioned high above the Earth. His body had taken on a kind of luminescence, and he was part of the clouds that surround the Earth.
